In the time since I last posted, a 7 year old student of mine said to me in the tone of one addressing a silly misguided upstart, “Mr. Linsenbardt, when you grow up, you should be an artist. I mean, when you really grow up, because you don’t want to be a tutor.”

Yeah, I like to draw chickens and try to draw baby ducks. This was also the theme of a children's book I read with an ESL student earlier in the day.

This is a gussied up version of a picture drawn by a student of mine. I lef the original at work, but hope to post it soon along with the story we wrote.

First, I thought I would introduce you to some bits of the process, so here are some of Mrs. Linsenbardt’s prepared canvases:

And then a few unsatisfactory bits from my sketchbook, as usual in what would pass as an early stage of development if I was faithful enough to my artistic aspirations to ever get beyond idle sketchery. These were slapped together during work as a substitute 5th grade teacher (incorporating input from my students) and an algebra tutor, respectively:

Mine are bigger because they are less impressive at smaller sizes, so I try to cheat. Also I reduced their resolution before uploading them because they didn’t need much detail. You will all notice my slavish adherence to the three or so novel ideas I have come up with in my lifetime. Hooray!

A Coup

I had planned to surreptitiously take brief control of this blog from my wife and post some things. It turns out I didn’t know the password, though, so couldn’t be very surreptitious about it. Oh well. First, some of her wonderful and exhaustively reseached creations for a work project:

Welcome to LinsenArt, a blog created by myself (Mrs. Linsenbardt) and my husband (Mr. Linsenbardt). The idea to start this blog came about when Mr. Linsenbardt came home one day and showed me a picture of a chicken with a gun he had drawn for his tutoring student.

Apparently he had drawn just the chicken while the kid the was working and asked, “Hey, how do you like my chicken?” to which the kid said, “Well, actually I only like violence.” So Mr. Linsenbardt added a gun, then gave the kid a firm talking-to about his life choices.

When I saw this picture I thought: I should post this on my blog! But Mr. Linsenbardt always draws pictures, so my blog could easily turn into just pictures of his drawings and of our cat Gus in various sprawled sleeping positions. Therefore I said we should create a blog just for pictures we draw and post on it every day.

We will probably not post pictures every day. And they will probably be more pictures of Daniel’s than of mine, because he sketched on his notes every day:

And I paint a canvas only every so-often:

So there you go. I apologize for all the words. In the future we will post just pictures of pictures. We hope you enjoy them!
